The first term of the 2016/ 17 Rugby Season has been another of great success and progression for the Audenshaw School Program with individual and team accomplishments a plenty. The 1st XV were successful in reaching the fourth round of the NATWEST National Vase with victories over Bury College, Runshaw College and King William's College from the Isle of Man. The school's senior team are also through to the Quarter Final Stages of the U18 Lancashire Schools Cup where we will meet Stonyhurst College in the last eight in January. The 1st XV has also registered victories over Bolton School (22-7), Rishworth School (29-27), Runshaw College (69-0) and St Margaret's, Liverpool (79-7) in the term so far. The 2nd XV have won 6 of their opening 8 games this year including memorable successes over Crossley Heath School (6-0) , Bolton School (42-0) and Stockport Grammar (17-3) as well as reaching the last eight in Lancashire with following a 44-14 success over Hutton Grammar in November.

In terms of individual accolades, 1st XV Skipper, Alex Meredith made the Lancashire team once again, appearing in all of the County fixtures against Staffordshire, Durham, Cumbria and Yorkshire respectively and 1st XV teammates, Dan Johnson and Ewan Roach have both earned their opportunity at professional level with Halifax RLFC. Ellis Robson continues to star for Warrington Wolves U19 Academy and U16 scrum half Danny Martin also made the county team in 2016.

In the younger age groups, Sufyan Amjad (U15) and four members of the U14 team; Nathan Rogers, Will Winbow, saad Amjad and Josef Smillie were all selected for Lancashire as was U13 skipper, Macawley Williams-Kivel who attracted the attention of both lancashire and Cheshire scouts and was ultimately taken on by Sale Sharks.

The growth of the Audenshaw Rugby Program has seen new links formed with Sale Sharks, Manchester Metropolitan University and Aldwinians RUFC in order to ensure suitable pathways for all Audenshaw rugby players beyond the school and we look forward to announcing new initiatives and touring plans in the new year.
