A budding actor from audenshaw who recently made his big screen debut is to attend the BAFTAs after the film he starred in was nominated for an award.
13 year old Dylan Naden will attend the star studded event with his dad after Cowboy Dave, a short film he appeared in, was shortlisted in the best Short Film category.
The film, which was shot in Trafford, tells the story of how a young boy’s life is changed by a chance encounter with a musician who’s down on his luck.
It’s Dylan’s first big screen role, following an appearance in the Jimmy McGovern drama Broken on BBC1 last year.
And the year 9 student says it was a great experience: “When I first got the script I just loved it,” says Dylan.
"The film’s based on the true story of director Colin O’Toole’s encounter with Dave Rowbotham from the Manchester band Durutti Column, so my character, Little Paul, is Colin as a 13 year old. It was a great experience to work with the team on set. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done, everyone on the film was amazing.”
Dylan found out the film had received a BAFTA nomination when his mum sent him a text whilst he was playing with his friends on his Playstation.
“We were all going crazy and now they’ve all started calling me ‘BAFTA boy’,” laughs Dylan. “It’s still sinking in really!”
But Assistant Headteacher Kelly Breakell says the attention won’t go to Dylan’s head.
“We’re all really excited for Dylan, but we know he’ll keep his feet on the ground. He works really hard with his teachers and his tutors when he’s filming to make sure he keeps up with his school work and knows we’ll work with him to help keep a good balance between his homework and his acting career. “There can’t be many students who are on the red carpet one night and then have to deal with Double Maths the next!”
Dylan will attend the awards ceremony in London on Sunday 18th February and says he can’t wait to rub shoulders with the stars. “I was happy just to get a part in the film, so being nominated for an award is amazing, I still an't believe it.
“I’m going to have to act really professionally on the night, but I’m sure I’ll be asking for a few selfies!
