The Audenshaw School U14 football team came from behind to win on penalties in their Tameside cup fixture with West Hill.
Audenshaw were the dominant side for large periods of the game however found themselves 3-0 down in the first half after some costly errors at the back. The West Hill strikers pounced on the Audenshaw mistakes and ensured they took their chances against the black and reds however, the game was never out of sight. Audenshaw continued to press forward and would have scored a number of goals had it not been for the excellent skills of the West Hill goal keeper. Audenshaw took a risk and changed the formation to leave only 3 defenders at the back and go on an all out offensive. Finally Audenshaw managed to find the net through Abdullah Cheema and the first half ended 3-1 to the visitors.
When West Hill scored the second half opener the game looked like it might have gotten away from the Audenshaw boys however, they stuck to their game plan and continued to attack. Harrison Wood slotted past the tall West Hill goal keeper and with 16 minutes remaining there suddenly seemed to be a chance of a come back. Toby Green found the net and Abdullah Cheema scored his second to level the score. The West Hill goal keeper made more outstanding saves to keep his team in it as the game went to added extra time.
The referee blew the full time whistle and penalties loomed, something which Audenshaw teams stereo typically don't look forward to. Full of confidence the Audenshaw boys found the net with all of their strikes and goal keeper Jake Harrison saved a West Hill penalty to give the red and blacks a win that defied the odds at 4-1 down in the second half. The team will look forward to next round; as beaten finalists last year the U14's target is to go one step further and lift the cup at the end of the season.
