Good Luck to the Audenshaw U14's in Sevens Action at Bolton School today
The 1st XV secured their place in the next round of the Lancashire Schools U18 Cup with a 33-25 victory over St Mary's Crosby on Wednesday afternoon. Despite falling behind in the opening stages via a penalty taken by the visitors, Audenshaw responded superbly with U16 Sale Sharks ace, Sufyan Amjad crossing in the right corner to provide the red and whites with a lead that they would not relinquish. Dan Martin added the extras to begin a superb afternoon with the boot for him and Audenshaw extended their lead through half back, Dan Johnson who powered over to the left of the sticks. At 14-3 and with dominance of both territory and possession it seemed that the resistance from the Liverpool outfit was fading until a chance kick, minutes from the end of the half allowed them back into the game, the score 14-8 at the interval. Audenshaw however, came out in stunning form for the second period, playing their most clinical rugby of the year so far, superb offensive shape leading to great tries from Luke Nero who grabbed a brace and Jack Lowndes who is one of the leading players in the competition this year. St Mary's rallied late in the game scoring two tries in response but it was undoubtedly a deserved win for the men from Hazel Street who continue to blood their young rising stars from the U16's including Jenson Paters, Josh Birch, Brandon Brunning and the afore mentioned Amjad. The boys were in action again on Saturday morning just three days after the cup success and turned in a superb display to go down narrowly 29-21 at the hands of Altrincham Grammar School. The 1st XV are next in action on Wednesday in the NATWEST National Vase with Falibroome the visitors.
