Audenshaw 1st XV……………………………………. 22 Bolton School 1st XV ….………………………………7 The 1st XV began their 2017/18 campaign on Saturday morning with a superb 22-7 victory over Bolton School. The boys prepared superbly through pre-season and a closely fought midweek encounter with Stonyhurst College confirmed the great progress made by this collection of players. Audenshaw dominated the opening exchanges with intelligent work from packmen, Toby Shaw, Marcus Wheatley and James Sharples ensuring a wealth of field position from which to attack. The home side took an early lead through a Dan Martin penalty, the Lancashire scrum half having few problems putting the ball over to make it 3-0. The immensely powerful No 8 turned centre, Jack Lowndes extended the Audenshaw lead minutes later with Martin adding the extras to make it 10-0 at the half. The smart play that characterised the first period was replicated again in the second and Audenshaw were unlucky to concede after a rushed kick down field from Bolton saw them achieve a brief reprise, only for the home skipper, Sharples to power over from 10 metres out after a great surge of Audenshaw pressure, making the score 15-7. The spoils were confirmed two minutes from the end with a spectacular finish from Lowndes who sped down the right edge to go over, the Bolton chasers efforts in vain. Martin was once again on target with the kick to confirm the Audenshaw win. Man of the Match 1-2-3 1. James Sharples 2. Dale Chadderton 3. Jack Lowndes
