The Audenshaw School Year Six Rugby Academy opens this year on Monday June 6th. The Academy sessions first took place for the 2010 intake and have proved invaluable in providing a foundation for the future development of Audenshaw Rugby players, many of whom have become leading players within the school teams and beyond at representative and professional level.
The objective is to identify players and to develop their skills and game knowledge in preparation for their first competitive season in year seven. The sessions will focus on core skill development as part of overall player education as we look to develop the next generation of rugby players. The sessions are ideally but not exclusively students who have a place at Audenshaw School from September 2017 and for year five students too with an interest in playing rugby. This will provide them with an excellent foundation for the commencement of their sporting careers in year seven.
The school has a proud tradition of success in producing professional and international stars in both codes of rugby with 35 former students progressing into professional systems, most notably Jack Johnson of the Warrington Wolves and England and Gene Ormsby of Huddersfield Giants in addition to over 30 Lancashire County Rugby Union stars in the last 10 years. It is hoped that the academy will again provide the first stage in producing our next rugby stars.
The sessions will commence on Tuesday June 6th at 4.00pm until 5.00pm and will run on successive Tuesdays until the end of the school year with the final session on July 11th. Parents/teachers/ carers are responsible for dropping off and collecting their students from Audenshaw School. Please contact me through the e mail or the phone number listed below with details of your students who would like to be involved. A maximum of 24 places will be allocated so I would suggest a prompt reply. Further details will follow based on your replies.
