Audenshaw School Rugby Club recognised the achievements of it's players and teams at the annual Rugby Dinner and Presentation Night on the evening of Friday March 24th. Former student and current Warrington Wolves star, Patrick Anglin was in attendance to present the awards to each of the winners.
It has been a great season for our program both in terms of on field development and the progression of Audenshaw players into the elite systems of the game. The 1st XV were successful in reaching both the 4th round of the NATWEST National Vase and the Quarter Finals of the U18 Lancashire Cup with skipper Alex Meredith representing Lancashire on four occasions. Ewan Roach has earned his opportunity in professional rugby league with Halifax and Ellis Robson has continued his rise to the top with Warrington Wolves.
Lancashire U16 honours were earned by Oliver Richardson and Daniel Martin who spearheaded their team’s push to the last eight in the county and were without doubt the school’s flagship team of the campaign with victories over Crossley Heath, Stockport and Manchester Grammar amongst the highlights. The U15’s defeated Rossall and Stonyhurst in 2016/17 and skipper Sufyan Amjad continues to flourish within the elite program at Sale Sharks.
Four of our U14 team will also wear the red rose this year , these being Will Winbow, Joe Smillie , Nathan Rodgers and Saad Amjad and U13 skipper, Macawley Williams-Kivel earned county honours too as well as also being selected for Sale Sharks. The Under 12’s have made momentous strides this season too, listing the likes of Wilmslow, Bolton and Manchester Grammar amongst their successes.
Rugby football is an integral part of the fabric and culture of Audenshaw School and we are extremely proud of the efforts of our players and staff in what has been a great year. The extended links with clubs, universities and professional teams guarantees a pathway in the game for all of our players as we continue to drive to even greater success.
