The first 'Systems Saturday'. Nice to be joined by such dedicated young men.
The U14 Rugby Team made it two wins from their opening three on Saturday with a hard fought victory over Rishworth School from Halifax. The year nine team prevailed by 26 points to 21 with a last minute score from star player, Damilola Akintola proving the difference. The home side began well with winger Nathan Clare crossing after eight minutes to provide the five point lead but the response from the Yorkshiremen was quick and clinical as some poor defence on the Audenshaw right allowed them in. The extras were added too to put the red and blacks behind at home for the first time this year at 7-5. The visitors extended their lead minutes later when front row, Marvellous Ohibirio had the ball stripped from his grasp after a clean break down field thus increasing the lead to 14-5 at the half way point of the first half. Rishworth then managed a third to take the score to 21-5 and it seemed that Audenshaw hopes were fading. The resilience and resolve however, that has become synonymous with this collection of players coupled with the benefits gained from an intense four month pre season were to show themselves once more as the boys scored three second half tries to ultimately claim the prize. Skipper, Declan O'Loughlin scored his fourth try of the season so far and a brace from Akintola including the winner in the dying seconds of the game made it a wonderful morning for the Audenshaw side. Games against Crossley Heath, Altrincham Grammar and Manchester Grammar are on the schedule in thew coming weeks for this ever improving young side.
