KS5 Science

Sixth Form (KS5) Biology

Examination Board: OCR

Biology is the science of living things. Studying their structure and function is of great importance, as our food, medicines and many manufacturing processes depend on this knowledge. Equally the solution to many environmental problems will depend on an understanding of life processes and how human activity impacts upon them. Some of the main aims of the specification we have chosen are to encourage students to:

Develop their interest in Biology; with the possibility of further study and pursuing a career in this area of Science; to appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society;

To develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works; to develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of Biology and how they relate to each other.

Sixth Form - How parents/carers can support their child

When your child enters the Sixth Form they are encouraged to become more independent in their learning and organisation. However, there are still several ways in which you can support your child through this demanding time:- Ensure they have a suitable work area at home, with very little distraction. The course entails a lot of independent study and an effective work space is essential.
